Power issues
If you find that your light suddenly won’t power on, there is usually a very simple explanation behind the issue, and we’d like to get you back up and running as soon as possible. In this guide, we will help you to troubleshoot the light, in order to rule out the simplest of potential causes in the first instance.
DARAY started manufacturing LED lights back in the late-2000’s, and since then, all of our models have adopted our LED technology (aside from the MAGW150 Ultraviolet Woods Light). Prior to this, every light we manufactured featured a halogen light source.
If you have one of our older halogen lights, it is not uncommon for a bulb to require replacement as a halogen bulb has a far shorter lifespan in comparison to an LED equivalent. We still recommend following the steps below to ensure that it is the bulb is at fault and not something else.
- Not wishing to state the obvious, but please ensure that the power to the light is switched on! If you have one of our mobile models or wall/desk/rail mounted models with a plug-top power supply, check the socket. Alternatively, if you have a hard-wired light, such as a ceiling or wall mounted variant wired to a switched fused spur, check that the wall switch is set to the ON position.
If you have a halogen light, check that the bulb is pushed into the bulb housing correctly.
- Some models feature a mains power switch, this can be found at the bottom of the base on some mobile models, or on the arm of some older wall or ceiling models. Check that this is switched ON.
- Many models in our LED range feature a ‘variable intensity function’, wherein the brightness of the light can be controlled directly by the power switch. Double-check that your light hasn’t been accidentally turned down to it’s lowest dimmable setting – it is easy to assume that it's powered OFF when it's at its dimmest! If the light is on but just very dim, use the switch to try turning the brightness back to a higher setting. If you are unsure how to do this, take a look at the next entry 'It's gone dim all of a sudden!'.
